Authorship Manifesto

As an Illustrator I enjoy creating and developing visual narratives, be it storybook illustration, graphic novels or character design and concept art. I find working together with a written source material and creating visual representations of the story to be where my interest in illustration primarily lies. I am working towards developing my skills in figure drawing and anatomy, in particular hands and feet which at present I struggle with. Creating environments and scenery to put my characters into is another aspect of visual narrative I am working on.

Experimenting with different methods of creating illustrations, i.e. traditional print processes, is something I also wish to explore further - as well as learning to create digital illustrations, editing traditional methods in software such as Photoshop. I would hope to be able to incorporate a mix of traditional and digital methods in my final illustration practise. I am inspired by the work of illustrators, Amy Beth Christenson, Charlie Adlard and Quentin Blake, all of whom have respectively worked in the area of illustration I am interested in.
